These striking walls and gorges define the geography of the Three Canyons Regional Conservation Area (ACR)<\/strong>. Located in the district of Suykutambo, province of Espinar (Cusco), the area gets its name from the deep river canyons<\/strong> carved by the Callumani, Cerritambo, and Apur\u00edmac rivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s the main draw, but not the only one. You\u2019ll also be amazed by the queu\u00f1a (or que\u00f1ual) forest<\/strong>, a native tree in danger of extinction that only grows at high altitudes in the Andes, and by the stunning Puya Raimondi<\/strong> (titanca), a bromeliad that can grow over 10 metres tall and live for up to 100 years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re staying in Cusco\u2019s Historic Centre (at 3,400 m.a.s.l.), we\u2019ll pick you up at 04:30 hours<\/strong>. Set your alarm early so you\u2019re ready by the time your guide arrives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ll travel by tourist transport to the town of Cusipata<\/strong> (3,310 m.a.s.l.), a journey of around two hours<\/strong> along a paved road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breakfast in Cusipata<\/h4><\/div>

At around 06:30 hours, we\u2019ll arrive in Cusipata<\/strong> (Quispicanchi province) where you\u2019ll enjoy a delicious breakfast<\/strong> with a variety of options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s the perfect time to warm up with a hot drink<\/strong> to shake off the morning chill \u2014 we recommend coca tea<\/strong>, a traditional Andean beverage dating back to pre-Hispanic times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After breakfast, we\u2019ll hop back on the transport<\/strong> and continue the journey. There\u2019s just one more hour to go before reaching your destination: the stunning Three Canyons<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Three Canyons of Suykutambo<\/h4><\/div>

At 11:30 hours<\/strong>, we\u2019re scheduled to arrive at the Three Canyons (3,000 m.a.s.l.), after travelling 241 kilometres from Cusco<\/strong>. Get excited \u2014 along the way, you\u2019ll enjoy breathtaking views<\/strong> of the Andean landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s time to explore and discover<\/strong> this stunning geological wonder, where the gorges of the Callumani and Cerritambo rivers come together to form the Apur\u00edmac River \u2014 whose name in Quechua means \u201cthe god who speaks<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Declared a Regional Conservation Area in 2017, this protected site spans 39,485 hectares, dominated by cliffs up to 80 metres high<\/strong>, carved and shaped by centuries of water and wind erosion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here you\u2019ll find natural beauty and rich biodiversity<\/strong>, including the queu\u00f1a tree<\/strong>, the towering Puya Raimondi <\/strong>(the largest flower spike in the world), and emblematic Andean animals like vicu\u00f1as, viscachas, and tarucas<\/strong> (Andean deer). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the visit, we\u2019ll continue by road for about one hour to the town of Yauri<\/strong>, capital of the Espinar province, where a hearty lunch awaits. Enjoy your meal \u2014 you\u2019ve earned it!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Flavour and highland tradition come together in Yauri<\/strong> (3,976 m.a.s.l.), where you\u2019ll have lunch in a local restaurant at around 13:30 hours. After resting and refuelling, we\u2019ll begin our journey back to Cusco<\/strong> at approximately 14:30 hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note: the lunch location may change<\/strong>. Your guide will inform you if, due to time or any other reason, it\u2019s better to eat in a different town or city<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
