If you’re passionate about birdlife or just starting out with birdwatching<\/strong>, this tour is ideal. In just one day, you\u2019ll spot both Andean and Amazonian species<\/strong>. That\u2019s because Abra M\u00e1laga \u2014 our destination \u2014 lies at a geographic transition zone<\/strong> between the Andes and the Cusco jungle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It all begins at dawn. At 04:00 hours<\/strong>, we\u2019ll pick you up from your hotel in the Historic Centre of Cusco and head to Abra M\u00e1laga (4200 m.a.s.l.) in private transport. After breakfast at around 07:15 am, you’ll be ready to set off with a specialised guide<\/strong> in search of resident, migratory, and endemic species.<\/p>\n\n\n

Birdwatching starts on the eastern slope (the high jungle)<\/strong> and finishes on the western face (mountainous side)<\/strong>. It\u2019s an intense day of discovery, with only a pause at midday for a tasty box lunch<\/em>. Among the many species you might encounter are the royal cinclodes, the grey-breasted mountain toucan, and the shimmering white-tufted sunbeam<\/strong> (Aglaeactis castelnaudii<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But that\u2019s not all \u2014 you could also spot the majestic Andean condor<\/strong>, the Puna tapaculo<\/strong> (Scytalopus simonsi<\/em>), the rufous-bellied seedsnipe<\/strong>, the Puna snipe, and the Andean flicker, along with a variety of hummingbirds<\/strong> flitting through the greenery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
