Costa Verde Beach Circuit | Lima is the only South American capital with direct access to the ocean, and the Costa Verde is Peru’s most important beach circuit. It stretches for nearly 6 kilometres and connects the districts of Chorrillos, Barranco, Miraflores, San Isidro, Magdalena del Mar, and San Miguel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El sue\u00f1o de unir la ciudad con el litoral naci\u00f3 durante el gobierno del presidente Augusto B. Legu\u00eda<\/strong> (1928) con el proyecto de la carretera costanera \u00abPatria Nueva<\/strong>\u00bb. Aunque qued\u00f3 paralizado tras su ca\u00edda, en la d\u00e9cada de 1960 el arquitecto y exalcalde de Miraflores, Ernesto Arambur\u00fa Menchaca<\/strong>, retom\u00f3 la idea inspir\u00e1ndose en la famosa Costa Azul francesa<\/strong>. Finalmente, el 15 de diciembre de 1970 se inaugur\u00f3 oficialmente<\/strong> este ic\u00f3nico circuito vial y gastron\u00f3mico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Costa Verde is the coastal and cliffside strip that runs along the Pacific Ocean, connecting the capital’s main tourist districts, such as Miraflores and Barranco. Today, it is one of the most photographed and visited places by travelers from around the world, thanks to its ocean views, well-maintained parks, and outdoor routes that are ideal for walking or exercising with the sea breeze in the background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A little history<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea of connecting the city with the coastline emerged during the government of President Augusto B. Legu\u00eda (1928) with the \u00abPatria Nueva\u00bb coastal highway project. Although the project was halted after his fall from power, in the 1960s, architect and former mayor of Miraflores Ernesto Arambur\u00fa Menchaca revived the idea, taking inspiration from the famous French Riviera. Finally, on December 15, 1970, this iconic road and culinary circuit was officially inaugurated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located along Malec\u00f3n Cisneros, this park pays tribute to Italian naturalist Antonio Raimondi. It is a popular meeting point for adventure enthusiasts, as the paragliding launch site is located here, where flights over the cliffs take off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parque El Faro de la Marina (Miraflores)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sobre los acantilados del malec\u00f3n se erige este faro hist\u00f3rico de hierro fundido<\/strong> de 22 metros de altura. Fabricado en 1900<\/strong> por la firma sueca Chance Bros<\/strong>, funcion\u00f3 originalmente en Punta Coles<\/strong> (Moquegua) antes de ser trasladado a Miraflores en 1973<\/strong>. Compuesto por 319 piezas ensambladas, es uno de los monumentos m\u00e1s fotografiados del distrito. Perched on the cliffs along the malec\u00f3n stands this historic 22-meter-tall cast-iron lighthouse. Manufactured in 1900 by Swedish company Chance Bros, it originally operated in Punta Coles (Moquegua) before being relocated to Miraflores in 1973. Made up of 319 assembled pieces, it is one of the district’s most photographed landmarks. (Note: There is a popular legend attributing its design to Gustave Eiffel, although there are no official records confirming this).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Larcomar (Miraflores)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inaugurated in 1998, Larcomar is a shopping center featuring avant-garde architecture built directly into the cliffside. It offers privileged views of the coastline, more than 100 stores, movie theaters, and a diverse selection of restaurants overlooking the ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mirador Catalina Recavarren (Barranco)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dise\u00f1ado por Arturo Sol\u00eds M\u00e1laga, es un punto tranquilo y bohemio con excelentes panor\u00e1micas de la Costa Verde<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located on the edge of the cliff in the bohemian district of Barranco, next to La Ermita Church and Bajada de Ba\u00f1os, this balcony pays tribute to Peruvian poet Catalina Recavarren. Designed by Arturo Sol\u00eds M\u00e1laga, it is a peaceful, bohemian spot offering excellent panoramic views of the Costa Verde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parque de las Mariposas (Barranco)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located along Malec\u00f3n Paul Harris, this space was created through a community initiative by Barranco residents. It serves as an ecological refuge for local butterfly species, providing a peaceful setting to enjoy views of the ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parque Chino de Miraflores<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inaugurado en febrero de 2022<\/strong> en la cuadra 11 del Malec\u00f3n Cisneros, conmemora la herencia e inmigraci\u00f3n china en el Per\u00fa<\/strong>. Su entrada est\u00e1 custodiada por imponentes leones de piedra tra\u00eddos desde China como s\u00edmbolo de protecci\u00f3n. Es un punto ideal para relajarse y apreciar el atardecer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inaugurated in February 2022 on Block 11 of Malec\u00f3n Cisneros, it commemorates Chinese heritage and immigration in Peru. Its entrance is guarded by imposing stone lions brought from China as a symbol of protection. It is an ideal spot to relax and enjoy the sunset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parque Mar\u00eda Reiche (Miraflores)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ubicado en el Malec\u00f3n de la Marina, este parque rinde homenaje a la investigadora germano-peruana Mar\u00eda Reiche<\/strong>. Sobre el c\u00e9sped se aprecian r\u00e9plicas a gran escala dise\u00f1adas con plantas de las c\u00e9lebres L\u00edneas de Nazca<\/a>, las cuales se iluminan por la noche ofreciendo un espect\u00e1culo visual \u00fanico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located along Malec\u00f3n de la Marina, this park pays tribute to German-Peruvian researcher Mar\u00eda Reiche. Large-scale replicas of the famous Nazca Lines can be seen across the lawn, designed using plants. At night, they are illuminated, creating a unique visual display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
