9:00 approx: Visit of the Church of the Nazarenas and the Sanctuary of the Lord of Miracles — interior visit
Discover the history of the Church of the Nazarenes which dates back oto the spanish colonial times. The holly image of the Lord of Miracles is located right on the High Altar, the locals also call him as “The Christ of Pachacamilla”, “The purple Christ” or even “The Protector of Peru”
Taste the Turrón de Doña Pepa
The Turrón de Doña Pepa is Peru’s national dessert created by a famous Afro-Peruvian Josefa Marmanillo during colonial times—Josefa’s hypocoristic is Pepa in spanish language. According to oral history, Doña Pepa was a slave who suffered from paralysis and that enabled her release from slavery and later she traveled to Lima to be cured of her illness asking the Purple Christ for a miracle. Fortunately, thanks to her faith and devotion, she recovered from her illness and in gratitude she created the sweet / dessert dedicated to the Christ of Pachacamilla.
You can buy the famous Turrón de Doña Pepa at the atrium of the church of the Nazarenas.
10:00 approx: Sanctuary of Santa Rosa de Lima and the Wishing Well — interior visit
Isabel Flores de Oliva or better known as Santa Rosa de Lima was the first holy woman Saint born in the American continent, which is why she is known as The Patroness Saint of America and the Philippines. Santa Rosa was canonized as a Saint in 1671 by Pope Clement the 10t
In the sanctuary/church of Santa Rosa, you can also visit the famous Wishing Well or Poso de los Deseos — a place where Santa Rosa used to pray a lot.
10:30 approx: Visit of the birth-house of San Martín de Porres — interior visit
On this tour you will visit the famous house of San Martin de Porres who was born in this building in 1579. San Martin is considered the first mulatto saint in the world and is also known as Fray Escoba, Patron of Pharmacists or Universal Patron of Peace.
San Martin and Santa Rosa de Lima lived their best years simultaneously at the beginning of the 17th century, however, the canonization of this Afro saint was postponed for many centuries due to his ethnic condition, until the end of the 20th century he was canonized.
11:00 approx: Visit of the Santo Domingo convent — interior visit
This church was built in the middle of the 16th century and is currently one of the most visited museums in Lima because the two most popular saints of Peru lived here: Santa Rosa and San Martin — during this tour, you will be able to visit the crypt where both saints were buried.
